The 3/4" gravel does not have to remain the same depth everywhere, so you can put a bigger slope on the clay than the gravel base layer, e.g. the gravel is 4" thick at the house and 6" thick at the far end to make up for the steeper clay slope (but gravel still sloped too). You do nice workmanship with a shovel there.

Crusher-run gravel compacts well but does not drain very fast -- at least not as fast as 3/4-inch crushed stone (no fines). Talk to a soils engineer if you are worried -- but in my experience, either crusher-run gravel (compacted) or 3/4-inch crushed stone can be used under footings. So can rigid .
