To work around this, 2910 uses a separate gear reduction to the encoder that matches the gear reduction from the VP to the wheel rotation, so the encoder is effectively 1:1 with the wheel. Since their absolute encoder always "knows" where it is, and it's 1:1 with the wheel, they never have to zero their encoders on their azimuth.

Last year, I successfully installed (on my GSO Dob) the encoder kit that Serge provided. it works great with the Nexus II and Sky Safari 7 Pro. Very good instructions were provided with the encoder kit. I got the high resolution altitude encoder, and the lower resolution azimuth encoder, BTW. There is a choice in azimuth encoders.
